About Mwanga-Imbalu Dance

This is a ceremonial initiation dance from the Bagishu or Mbamasaba people from Eastern Uganda. They occupy the slopes of mountain Elgon, Mbale district and Tororo district and Budunda.

They believe for a young boy to become a man he must be circumcised and the dance is always for ritual performances whoever misses the ceremony is not regarded as a man, doesn’t sit on the same table of men during a community meeting.
